Pressure Washing for Fall Cleanup

You can pressure wash your outdoor grills before you tarp them for the winter. If the grill has been connected to a propane tank or natural gas line, you must disconnect it first. All tanks and lines must be cleared so the water jet won’t damage them. Be sure to unplug all power cords if your rotisserie or starter is electric.

For regular charcoal grills, remove any used coals and remove the grill from its stand. The grease from grills will require a degreaser. Use a detergent that is safe for pressure washers.  Using the soaping nozzle, apply the degreaser from the bottom to the top. Avoid spraying directly into any heating elements. Mix borax with water for a cleaning agent. Brush the cushions with a hard-bristled brush after cleaning with the solution. Make a generous lather on the entire cushion area. Next, rinse the cushions. Using the spray tip, completely rinse all of the cleaning solutions from each cushion after it has been set. Sweep the spray tip between one edge of the cushion and the other. Keep your spray tip at least 1-1/2 feet away from your cushions to prevent damage. To fully dry your cushions, press down the moisture from them with your hands and lean them against a sunny wall. Place your freshly sanitized outdoor cushions back on your furniture once they have dried.

Umbrella Cleaning

With a little preparation and time, you can safely clean your outside umbrellas. The umbrella fabric should be removed from the frame first. Put it on a tarp and spread it flat. Sweep off any loose debris or dirt from the umbrella with a broom or brush. Make sure to thoroughly wet the umbrella fabric by running it under a water hose. Mix a simple cleaning solution of warm water, white vinegar and a small amount of dish soap in a bucket. The umbrella should be cleaned using a handheld scrub brush. After rinsing with a hose, allow the umbrella to completely dry. You can now reattach the fabric to the umbrella frame and use it as a fresh, clean outdoor umbrella.
